Access Roberts County Civil Dockets

Roberts County civil cases live in a handful of different courts, so start by figuring out which one holds your file. Most civil matters sit with the combined county and district clerk, while probate, small claims, and Justice Court records follow their own paths. There is no single public portal. You can lean on state tools for a partial electronic view, but the clerk keeps the official Roberts County civil docket. Bring the cause number, match the court level, and confirm any setting or document with the office that maintains it.

Inside a Roberts County Civil Docket

Think of the civil docket as a chronological index to the file. It tells you a petition, motion, notice, order, or judgment was entered. It does not show the document itself. Roberts County has published no local sample. The field families below draw on official Texas interface material and common civil register terms, so a clerk-produced record may label or arrange them differently.

Cause numberThe clerk's unique identifier. A neutral example is CV-####; no Roberts format was published.
Case informationCourt, location, category, case type, filing date, status, and judge where supplied.
PartiesPlaintiff and defendant, or petitioner and respondent, plus attorneys where public.
EventsDate, event, type, comments, linked documents, pages, price, and document status where transmitted.
SettingsNotice of hearing, docket call, status conference, mediation, trial, continuance, or reset.
OutcomeAgreed order, judgment, dismissal, nonsuit, default judgment, or appeal entry.

A dollar figure inside a statewide interface can mislead if you take it as the cost of anything local. It is not a filing-fee balance and not a Roberts County copy quote, so read the field in context.

Roberts Civil Docket Clerk

Roberts County folds its county and district clerk functions into one office. That convenience hides an important split. A 31st District civil or family docket is not the same as a constitutional County Court probate docket. The two may share a counter and phone number. Name the court in your request, not just "civil case."

Who holds the office right now is unclear. The county clerk page and the Secretary of State identify Debra Shewmake. Other recent directories name Toni Rankin. Use the office address and phone, and verify the current recipient. For court-side County Court questions, the County Judge's office sits in Suite 101 at (806) 868-3721. It is not automatically the copy custodian. Before visiting, ask whether a paper index, public terminal, or same-day file view exists. The county advertises none of them.

Civil Case Types on the Docket

Civil case type drives jurisdiction. It also drives the record custodian. The 31st District Court takes higher-value civil disputes, title-to-land matters, divorce and family cases, and other claims within district jurisdiction. County-level civil, probate, and guardianship work stays with the constitutional County Court. No separate county court at law or statutory probate court is listed for Roberts County.

  • Major civil and title-to-land disputes in District Court
  • Divorce, contested family, and other district family matters
  • County-level civil matters within County Court jurisdiction
  • Probate and guardianship through the county court and clerk structure
  • Small claims and forcible entry or detainer in Justice Court

Justice Court civil jurisdiction runs to $20,000, exclusive of interest, under Government Code §27.031, which also covers forcible entry and detainer and other listed matters. Divorce, title to land, defamation, and certain other claims are excluded. A caption alone may not reveal the proper level, so consult the filed citation or the clerk.

Roberts Justice Civil Dockets

The countywide Justice of the Peace keeps a separate Roberts County civil docket for small claims, eviction or possession proceedings. It also covers other claims within justice jurisdiction. The official JP page lists contact details and an inquiry form, but no individual case search. The form asks for a name, phone, email, confirmation, and reason for inquiry. It is not labeled as a docket request or copy-order form.

Call before using the form. Give the cause number, case type, and item sought. Skip extra sensitive information. The 2024–25 OCA report shows 13 civil cases pending at the start, 5 added, 1 disposed, and 17 pending at the end for the Roberts Justice Court. Those are aggregate counts, not live case statuses.

5Justice civil cases added
1Justice civil case disposed
17Pending at period end

Stats measure the docket's workload, not one claim's status.

Civil Docket Settings and Hearings

A setting line says the case is scheduled. Entries may name a hearing, docket call, status conference, mediation, or jury or non-jury trial. Some record a continuance or reset. None of that is a final result. If a date changes, the newest notice and the court's own confirmation control. In a 31st District civil case, call the combined clerk for the filed entry. Ask the coordinator about current court-side scheduling.

The 31st District local rules aim to dispose of civil jury and non-jury cases within 12 months from appearance. Contested family cases carry a six-month goal. It is counted from appearance or expiration of the waiting period. Those are case-management standards only. They promise no hearing date and cannot override an order, continuance, workload, or later setting.

Confirm every reset with the court administrator or coordinator. An agreement between counsel never creates an official date by itself. The full date-check workflow sits at Roberts County court dates.

Roberts Civil Docket Copy Requests

A docket sheet answers what was filed, and when. The text behind that event sits in the pleading, order, or judgment itself. Say which one you need, or both. A written request should list the court, cause number, case style if needed, and the document or date range. Note whether you want a plain or certified copy. Add a delivery address and a contact for questions.

The Roberts County recording-fee PDF sets fees for recorded instruments only. It does not price civil court copies. The OCA civil cost chart and Government Code §51.318 are state-level reference points, not a local invoice. The county publishes no current terms for email delivery, cards, electronic checks, certified mail, or turnaround.

Call for a quote first. Mailing funds without one risks delay, and a missing cause number can trigger a statutory search charge.

Civil Docket Access Rules

Texas civil court records are presumed open. Some events and filings stay sealed or redacted. A public Roberts County civil docket can list an event yet hold back the attached image. Family and protective matters may carry extra limits. The clerk decides whether you get a plain, certified, redacted, or no copy, under the controlling law and any court order.

Key access rules:

Texas Rule of Judicial Administration 12 governs written judicial-record requests and the review process.

Texas Rules of Civil Procedure 76a and 21c address civil-record sealing and sensitive-data protection.

Government Code §552.0035 explains why judiciary information follows court rules and laws rather than the ordinary Texas Public Information Act path alone.

Put a Rule 12 request in writing. It should identify the record and reach the custodian. The rule expects a response as soon as practicable and within 14 days, or notice of when to expect it. A denial carries its own review procedure. Ask for the legal basis and any public redacted version rather than for staff to disclose protected data informally.

Roberts Civil Docket Statistics

The district performance report for September 2023 through August 2024 shows a Roberts County civil clearance rate of 78.6 percent. The backlog index is 4.8. Family cases show a 166.7 percent clearance rate and a backlog index of 1.6. A clearance rate compares dispositions to new filings over a period. A backlog index measures workload. Neither tells you a case's status.

Ratios can top 100 percent when a court clears old pending work alongside new filings. That does not mean every family case finished within the same span. Keep these figures apart from Justice Court counts. The reports cover different court levels and measures.

For a live Roberts County civil docket, go back to the cause number and the right custodian. Check the clerk's register first. Then pull the document behind the event. The Roberts County case lookup describes broader search keys. When statewide coverage thins out, the combined clerk remains the final local source.

OCA and CARD figures explain workload; they do not confirm a hearing, judgment, balance, or filing in any single case.
